Your Past, Our Findings, and Your Journey

Sean was able to identify a number of ancestors from the information I... read more already had on my own, and to establish the location of several of them in Northern Ireland. This was great! We opted to participate in an all day tour visiting important locations that spoke to our ancestors' lives. Aisling efficiently handled our logistics and Ian was our tour guide for the day. Ian is a gregarious fellow and he had lots of stories to entertain us as we did have to travel a good deal in the car that day. He did a great job of finally locating our great great grandparent's gravesite in an abandoned cemetery of an long abandoned stone church. This took a lot of effort on his part as he had to go to many other potential locations. A another real highlight was visiting the land our great great grandparents farmed! While we did spend a lot of time in the car that day, we had a very good time and it was well worth the time spent. The beautifully bound books that are available to keep at the end of the tour document all their findings. What a treasure!

Our tour guide, Ian,... read more hit it off right away with my Mom, drove us around to all of the places he had checked out in advance, made sure she was safe when checking out old graveyards, found an incredible Millhouse restaurant for lunch, and explained about what the places used to look like, back in her grandmother's day. All in all, it was a most memorable day. I highly recommend this company to anyone exploring their Irish heritage.

Touring through ancient Ireland with Ian was a captivating journey back in time, filled with the rich history of Ireland. However, the highlight of the experience was the family history tour, where we explored churches, graveyards, and ancestral townlands. We even visited homesteads and happened upon a distant relative! Ian's personable nature and deep knowledge of Irish history added another layer of authenticity to the adventure. His quick thinking and resourcefulness while helping us locate our ancestors' graves made the tour not just informative but also emotionally profound. Thank you Ian!

With the family tour you get a wonderful book that can be handed down to future generations. I am going to my dad record his thoughts about our adventure so we can pass this along as well.

Fabulous experience! - My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Ireland for only one day this past August off a cruise. I reached out to My Ireland Heritage Tours to see... read more if they could use any of the information I had previously developed to locate my family’s ancestral home. Bingo! Despite indicating they are able to pinpoint to within 10 yards, for my family they found the exact cottage still standing in a field. To say I was flabbergasted is an understatement. Seán showed me the records that he used to determine that location and there is no doubt. To stand where my great-grandmother lived was surreal. Even better was the ability to bring all this information and pictures back to my 88 year old mother so she could see her grandmother’s house. As if that wasn’t enough, Seán took us around a variety of churches and graveyards associated with my family AND as a bonus plan, he included some Irish history sites that I had indicated I was interested in. All in one day. He made sure we made it back to our ship on time. He even made sure my husband’s phone got quickly mailed to the US when we accidentally left it in his car. Additionally, Aisling was so easy and professional to work with on the front end of the trip planning. I can’t recommend this family business enough!!!!!

Family Research With Snapshot Product - A few years ago, I took a full day genealogy tour with Sean and Ian which was a fantastic experience.  On short notice, I had an opportunity to come back... read more to Ireland for a week this past August.  Due to my late developing schedule, I was unable to schedule a full day tour with My Ireland Heritage.  Instead I hired them to conduct basic genealogy research via their Snapshot product.  After conveying the family information I knew to Sean and team, my plan was to take whatever additional research they could find and to then drive to any identified locations.  Going with Snapshot was a very productive decision.  The research they provided identified exactly where in a specific townland within the village of Boherbue, Cork my Godsil / Sheehan ancestors lived in the early to mid-1800s.  The Snapshot research gave me general area background and family surname frequency in various record sources.  It also contained a combination of civil and parish records research information, including Griffith’s Valuation and Tithe Applotment Books information, which identified specific locations as well as other persons having the same surname living nearby.  That broad surname information will allow me to do additional research at a later date to try and establish even further extended family connections.  The Snapshot summary information also contained Eircodes, which are house or building specific GPS codes, associated with places my ancestors lived. I ultimately used those codes to drive to the identified locations.  Having those Eircodes makes locating sites much easier as navigation on Ireland’s older, local roads (think narrow with stone walls on either side) and the changing of physical locations over centuries can make site visits challenging.  After I received the research, Sean was extremely gracious in engaging me on a follow-up call regarding questions I had on the Snapshot information and he even reached out to a current local village resident on my behalf.  With the research and Eircodes, our self-drive to the village was very straightforward and gratifying.  In my case, I was looking for foundational genealogical research, specific ancestral location information, and post-research access to a knowledgeable team to help me on my search.  Snapshot certainly hit the mark for me.  I highly recommend My Ireland Heritage for any project.
