Finding my Irish Family Roots - My husband and I were keen to trace the footsteps of our Irish ancestors. We each had an Irish ancestor who immigrated to Australia in the 1800’s but knew little... read more about their lives in Ireland. We contacted “My Ireland Family Heritage” and spoke with Sean who is an expert in Irish genealogy. After providing our family information, Sean set to work looking into my ancestor in County Tipperary and my husband’s in County Cork. Sean and Aisling then worked closely with us to set up our two day ancestral townland tour. On arrival in Dublin we were welcomed by fantastic tour guide Ian and he escorted us to the townlands, homes, and churches of our ancestors, he also planned places to eat, and dropped us at the airport too. Nothing was too much trouble. There were many memorable and moving experiences along our journey particularly walking through the ruins of the parish church where my great great grandparents married and attending a church service in Clonakilty where my husband’s great grandmother had worshipped. We enjoyed speaking to some locals in both townlands, luckily Ian could easily understand the sometimes strong Irish accents. We highly recommend employing the genealogy research skills of Sean and touring beautiful Ireland with Ian if you have the opportunity.

It's quite impactful to be able to walk in the same locations where our ancestors lived their lives almost 200 years ago.

We spent three days with our tour guide Ian, who is very informative with a great sense of humor. The first day we did a historical tour of County Meath in which we visited several ancient castles and abbeys; the site of the Battle of the Boyne; and the ancient burial site at Newgrange, which predates Stonehenge.

The second day we traveled to County Mayo to visit the birthplace of my wife's great grandfather, where we were able to find the old family home and the church they attended. Ian did a great job of interacting with a couple of the local residents who welcomed us and gave us some insight into the history of the area,.

The third day we traveled to County Louth to visit the birthplace of my great-great grandfather. We saw the church and the school that he attended, found the likely gravestone of my great-great-great grandmother, and visited the area where the family home once stood. We also visited some interesting historical sites along the way including St Brigid's Shrine, and Tara, which served as the seat of the High Kings of Ireland for many centuries.

All in all, it was a very memorable experience, and highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn about and see the places where their Irish ancestors once lived.

Great experience tracing family roots!  - We've been wanting to visit Ireland for years, so when the trip came together we figured it would be an amazing opportunity to learn more about our ancestry. Sean, Nicola,... read more and Aisling pulled together such great information. All we knew before was the name of my 3rd great grandfather, the townland where he lived, and what year he emigrated to the U.S. We went with the research snapshot package where we received Eircodes to drive on our own to where the family lived in the 1800s. The old stone buildings were still there and it's still operating as a farm today with cows and sheep! Sean also gave us the eircode for a local graveyard (starting in the 1700s) that was on a back road behind a stone fence we never would've known about on our own. We were so surprised to find 4 gravestones related to our ancestors!! This combined with the booklet of information on the family and other advice from Sean and Aisling to visit historically significant sites in the area made it an amazing visit and capped off our trip to Ireland with our 9 year old son. What an adventure!! Now we just keep talking about going back someday. And we have information to share and pass down to other family members, which is such a treasure.
