Exceptional in every way!

Over the last few months of preparing for our trip, every single detail was meticulously attended, not only professionally, but helpfully, and in such a friendly manner, that I felt as if I knew Sean, Aisling and Ian before I even stepped off the plane.

The amount of work these wonderful people put into our personal history is mindboggling. My mother was an avid amateur genealogist, and had worked for decades to bring to light the trail our family took, but our resources are limited.

Sean knows exactly where to look, and was able to fill in so many gaps that had eluded us for generations. Some of the information he found, unbeknownst even to him, actually solidified the findings we had amassed over the years. Ours was a family in coal mining – I only found on our tour that they had originated from a mining area, and their arrival on the  border coincided exactly with the decline in the mining industry in County Wicklow.

I would have been overjoyed simply with the knowledge of why they left when they did, about 12 years before the famine. Breaking through our brick wall of great grandparents even farther back on the family tree was a dream come true, but to be able to set foot on not only the area they lived, and find that the house is still there was overwhelming. Seeing the family church and cemetery where our ancestors and extended family still rest is a truly moving experience.

The care taken by this company in each and every aspect of the journey cannot be overstated. Only about 2 weeks prior to my trip, Sean contacted me to let me know that he had also stumbled across some of my husband’s family name in the process and included them as well in his research. How often can anyone say that they not only got what they paid for, but more than they ever imagined? I can say that. They were even kind enough to answer a few follow-up questions after my return home, as I was so stunned on my tour with Ian that I didn’t think ask at the time.If you have the opportunity to make the trip to Ireland, contact My Ireland Family Heritage before you go.

If your family was there, Sean will go above and beyond to find them. Even without family, contact them anyway. Ian is a walking encyclopedia of history, and so fun to talk to. Aisling will make sure every “I” is dotted, and every “T” is crossed.  Thank you so much for the trip of a lifetime, and the opportunity to pass on everything we have discovered to future generations

Once in a lifetime experience

Oct 2024 • Family

We highly recommend My Ireland Heritage for anyone who wants to learn and be guided to their Irish “roots” and much, much more. Sean Quinn and Ian Darragh of My Ireland Family Heritage have deep knowledge or the areas we wanted to visit in Meath, Sligo and Kilkenny. While we knew about one side of the family history back to 1690, there was nothing known about the other that arrived in the US in the 1870s.

Ian, Sean, and Nicola did thorough research on our localities and locations from which our ancestors left for America in 1849 and later. In addition, Ian and Sean did separate day-long “recons” in advance of our time with them, seeking out local people and the specific properties with maps and whatever records still available. Their results were absolutely outstanding! In both our cases, they found and took us to our still-existing cottages and shops from the early 1820s.

It was so enjoyable to be with Ian for three days and for a special day with Sean. Whether it was the Newgrange World Heritage sites 5,500 years old , the Battle of the Boyne 1690 , or the local cemeteries and churches of our ancestors. Ian was especially attentive to my wife throughout the travels after she twisted her ankle in a rain-soaked old cemetery.

Throughout the process of trip preparation over months to giving us the final, wonderful books of Meath and Sligo, Aisling was highly professional and responsive with all the many details. The bound books she prepared are treasures! Thanks to all for truly exceptional experiences.

Unforgettable Visit To Ancestral Homeland

I highly recommend My Ireland Family Heritage if one is seeking information about their Irish ancestry! I wanted to make the most of a quick work trip to Ireland (my first visit) and do a bit of exploring to find out more about my Irish ancestors on both my father’s and mother’s sides. I only had two days and spent one focusing on my paternal side and the other on my maternal. I saw all the great reviews here about My Ireland Family Heritage and was incredibly happy with the results.

I provided information about my ancestors and was pleased to find out that Seán, Aisling, and Nicola were able to locate initial information very quickly. I paid for the consultation call to discuss their findings, which included names, dates, and locations. Some of the information I had on the family tree I was building they noted was incorrect which was very helpful to find out. I felt it only fair to pay for the consultation because the team had already done some work locating a few ancestors and would dig deeper and have more to share on the call, which was the case for me.

Because I only had two days in Ireland on this trip, I opted for one of their newer products, the Basic Bronze Snapshot, which provides basic information substantiating the existence of the exact ancestor locations. It was anything but basic though – they were able to locate my paternal great-grandfather’s farmhouse from the early 1800s which is still standing! I made my way to the location by train and taxi and located the farm by inputting the coordinates Seán provided into Google Maps. They also located their graveyard and church. The next day Seán took me out to visit the residences, church, and graveyard on my mom’s side dating back to when the family established themselves in Ireland in the 1100s! Great and amazing to see those structures still standing as well! This quick trip has only inspired me to find out more about my ancestors, so I hope to return to Ireland someday soon.

Thanks to My Ireland Family Heritage for this unforgettable journey. I’m so grateful. To have been allowed the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of my ancestors is priceless.

Silver Research Package & Bound Book & Consultation

Review of My Ireland Heritage Tours Presented on Trip adviser Jun 2024 • Family Apcoghlan1 Brisbane, Australia

Unforgettable and well worth experience with so many memories.

The greatest appreciation and gratitude to Sean, Aisling and the Team at My Ireland Family Heritage for their dedication to our family history, the presentation of the book and the pride and passion they take in their work.

My husband and I have just returned from Ireland a couple of days ago where we were travelling with my parents for a long awaited visit to my mother’s ancestral home. This trip was my mother’s “Bucket List” trip to visit Ireland to research and walk the grounds of her family ancestors.

As this trip was especially planned for my mother I wanted to see if I could find out as much of our Irish family history as I could before we went so that I could make the trip as memorable for her as possible. I wanted to give this to her as a surprise when we arrived in Ireland for our trip. I originally discovered My Ireland Family Heritage through a Google search and started communicating with Aisling last October. From the very start I found Aisling very responsive and upfront about their offerings, final products and costs.

I can understand people being a bit concerned about paying €100 for an initial phone consultation (as mentioned by reviewer Jun 2024), as it can be a bit hard when you don’t know who you are sending the money to. I took the leap of faith and I can tell you I was ecstatic with the results. I received my phone consultation from Séan as promised, on time with an outline of the details of my family history as well as initial timelines. Séan was so detailed, enthusiastic and passionate in his initial findings I was keen to continue our journey with them. We decided to go with the Silver Plus Package which included a beautifully bound keepsake book, supply of Eircodes (location codes) and map references as well as an hours consultation in the My Ireland Family Heritage office.

In the months leading up to our trip I had multiple emails with Aisling, Séan and Nicola confirming details and providing information. They were always very responsive and were more than happy to answer any question I threw at them.

We arrived in Dublin on the 9th of June and drove out to Batterstown, County Meath on the 13th of June to meet with Séan and Aisling. My mother had no clue of where we were going or what we were up to. The meeting went beyond my expectations. Mum was so emotional when we introduced her to Séan and Aisling and once she realised what was actually happening she was in tears. Once we gathered ourselves together and could finally speak though the tears Séan spent the next hour walking my Mum through the very detailed information they had gathered on both sides of her Irish ancestry. The detail and amount of information provided as well as location codes for family homes was amazing.

The bound book provided to Mum as part of this experience was beautiful and filled with not only the details of our Irish family history but also large amounts of relevant historical facts and events.

Once we left the office we headed to the local pub to gather our thoughts (and emotions) and made a plan for the rest of the afternoon to visit the most relevant sites for the trip. The Eircodes provided through the My Ireland Heritage research allowed us to stand on the actual land that my mother’s family had also stood hundreds of years ago. We also were able to locate their family church and landlord’s estate.

My mother just kept saying “this is amazing, so amazing” she was so blown away by the experience and she now also has a beautiful book and photos to remember her trip by.

We met again with Séan the next morning at the “Hill of Tara” where he explained the importance of this place to the origins of my Mum’s family name. The knowledge and passion Séan has is just amazing.

I would recommend this experience to anyone who is thinking of visiting Ireland in the pursuit of finding their family history. My husband and I went 12 years ago by ourselves to do the same thing and I must say a lot of it was guess work. This time we thought we would engage the experts and it surely made the trip so worthwhile especially if you are looking for lifelong memories.
Once again I would like to say a big “thank you” to Séan, Aisling and the Team at My Ireland Family Heritage for making this an experience that I know my Mum will never forget and also for your wealth of knowledge, professionalism, passion and kindness throughout this whole process. It has been an amazing journey that will always be remembered.

Exact Ten Yard Location For Ancestors Family Home

Review of My Ireland Heritage Tours Presented on Trip adviser Jun 2024 • MEF1977@ MEF1977

Exact Ten Yard Made our Father-Daughter trip SO special!

After this past winter, my father had a bad episode of poor health and we almost lost him so we decided to take the trip “home” we’ve always talked about together…just he and I. I had been planning our trip to Ireland for about six months and I wanted to surprise my father with some genealogy if at all possible. I read in my trusty Rick Steves travel guide that Seán Quinn at My Ireland Heritage was a top worthy consideration to help me. Boy, was that an understatement!

Communication was always great. I never waited more than a day (even with the time difference) to have my inquiries responded to in very thorough detail.

I learned early on in the process as I was talking to his daughter, Aisling, that even though I have done extensive research once my family came to the US…the pertinent most useful information for THEM was any trustworthy and verified usable data that could be tracked through the records in Ireland. Without my dad knowing, I had sent over all information that I had to Aisling via email and completed the brief family information questionnaire to the best of my ability. Shortly after, I was contacted and told that there was in fact a history that could be traced back and I was given several options that allowed me to consider my travel budget and what I wanted to spend.

I set up a 1-hour telephone consultation to discuss the details with Seán himself of what he and his team had uncovered at that point and I was given very easy instructions on how to pay for that session. I was able to clarify anything that I didn’t feel like I had articulated or communicated well through email and send any additional information that I wanted to include.

I decided to go with the Silver Plus Package with an upgrade for an in-person consultation that included the hardback bound family history book and they were even able to make 2 extra copies for other family members.

I also chose the “self drive” with what turned out to be simple Eircodes and after the fact I can honestly say this is the way to go. Upon initial conversation, when terms like “self-drive” and “will give you the 10-yards” were being used”… I wondered if it was literal or some turn of phrase used in Ireland? But it’s JUST that. They were able to find old family homestead locations (and other places) based on tax records and other information and mark them on maps provided that are bound and included to keep… and I was able to drive right to them within an estimated 10 yards accuracy. Eircodes could not be an easier system of navigation either! Here in the USA, we type an address into our GPS system of choice or your Google maps app, etc. (ex: 123 Maple St., Anytown, PA 17101) and if you’re lucky, it directs you where to go. In Ireland, the Eircode would be, for example, V94 KV9F. I typed that EXACTLY into the Google maps empty search field, hit the ‘search button’ (or ‘enter’ button) and voilà…You have your location and directions! As the sole driver on this trip, this reduced the stress so much and it made navigation a breeze.

Upon arrival in Ireland, I made an appointment ahead of time and Seán met us at our hotel lounge for a 1-hour consultation to tell my father all about what he discovered about our family and walk us through the hard back book that was part of the package I selected. He brought a couple of sweet little keepsake gifts, one hand painted by his lovely wife. This was the first my dad learned of all this and he was blown away!  Seán is not only a wonderful genealogist but he is a walking encyclopedia of Ireland, Irish and Celtic history. He obviously loves what he does and he is so lovely and welcoming. At the end of our trip he met up with us and gave us a tour of the Hill of Tara and Dunshaughlin Famine House as Seán knew we weren’t able to make it to Brú na Bóinne/Newgrange this trip.  He knew there was similar prehistoric history here so he met us nearby and we followed him by car then he walked us around and gave us a tour of the grounds. It was so important to my father and I and another unforgettable highlight of the trip!

From the beginning to the end Aisling, Nicola, Seán and this family run business made this a once in a lifetime experience and memory! Communication was ALWAYS top notch and the final product was above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend them.

Incredibly Meaningful Experience

My great great-grandparents both immigrated in the 1850s just after the great famine. Sadly, there was a fire that burned all their records, and our family never knew exactly where they were from. Previous generation family members visited Sligo and literally just asked around if anyone knew who we were related to (with not much success!). Very recently through DNA research we were finally able to figure out which townland my great great-grandmother came from.

My husband and I had just booked our first trip to Ireland, but we were not confident in our ability to find exactly where our family had lived, we didn’t know which church they attended, and we could find no record of their gravesites. We needed help so I researched local tour agencies, and My Ireland Family Heritage was the perfect fit.

From start to finish the team of Sean, Aisling, Ian, and Nicola were wonderful to work with. They were warm, responsive to my many questions, and helped plan the perfect day tour. We talked by phone once at the beginning then communicated by email which worked well with the time difference. I’d send a question in the evening and have a response the next morning.

The tour was nothing short of amazing. Ian picked us up from our hotel lobby and drove us from Dublin to the West coast. We instantly felt comfortable with him. Along the way he showed us points of interest, and provided a wealth of historical and cultural insights.

Without Ian guiding us, we never would have found the remains of my ancestors’ homes. It was the most incredible feeling to walk on their land, and to place my hands on the stone houses where they lived. He took us inside the church where my great great-grandmother was baptized. He also showed us where our people are buried, even though there are no headstone markers (a priest reconfirmed it for us the next day). Ian even introduced me to a local man with our family name who we must be related to. I am still reading through the book and am impressed by the research and contextual information included.

A week later and my heart is still full of all these memories. I highly recommend My Ireland Family Heritage. Thank you all so much for providing me such a personal and meaningful experience.

Fabulous experience!

My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Ireland for only one day this past August off a cruise. I reached out to My Ireland Heritage Tours to see if they could use any of the information I had previously developed to locate my family’s ancestral home. Bingo! Despite indicating they are able to pinpoint to within 10 yards, for my family they found the exact cottage still standing in a field. To say I was flabbergasted is an understatement. Seán showed me the records that he used to determine that location and there is no doubt. To stand where my great-grandmother lived was surreal. Even better was the ability to bring all this information and pictures back to my 88 year old mother so she could see her grandmother’s house. As if that wasn’t enough, Seán took us around a variety of churches and graveyards associated with my family AND as a bonus plan, he included some Irish history sites that I had indicated I was interested in. All in one day. He made sure we made it back to our ship on time. He even made sure my husband’s phone got quickly mailed to the US when we accidentally left it in his car. Additionally, Aisling was so easy and professional to work with on the front end of the trip planning. I can’t recommend this family business enough!!!!!
